Microsoft Store Update Enhances App Launching Experience

Microsoft has rolled out a significant update to the Microsoft Store, enhancing user interaction with downloaded applications. The latest version, 22508.1401.X.X, introduces two key features: the integration of Microsoft 365 Copilot Agents in the AI Hub and a streamlined method for launching certain downloaded apps.
New Features in the Microsoft Store
The AI Hub now provides users with the ability to explore Microsoft 365 Copilot Agents. By clicking on individual cards, users can access Microsoft 365 Copilot, which helps them understand the functionality of various agents. Available agents include a Prompt Coach, Writing Coach, Idea Coach, Career and Learning Coach, as well as an Analyst and Researcher. It is important to note that access to these features is limited to users who have the Microsoft 365 Copilot app and an active subscription.
For those who may not be interested in the AI Hub, the update offers a notable enhancement to the app launching process. Previously, users had to rely on the Start menu or Windows Search to access applications downloaded from the Microsoft Store. The new update introduces a prominent “Open” button that appears once the download is complete. With just a click of this button, users can immediately start using their newly downloaded apps, making the experience more convenient.
Additional Improvements and Developer Initiatives
This enhancement to app launching complements another recent improvement: the capability for developers to update their apps directly through the Microsoft Store. This update ensures that users benefit from the latest features and security improvements from the developers themselves.
In an effort to support individual developers, Microsoft has also lowered the registration fee for the Microsoft Store. This fee is now set at $19 for individual developers, while the standard fee of $99 for commercial users remains unchanged. Additionally, Microsoft is clarifying its rules regarding child safety and applications that utilize generative AI.
These updates reflect Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to improving user experience and providing developers with the tools they need to succeed in the digital marketplace. As the company continues to innovate, users can expect further enhancements that prioritize convenience and functionality in their app interactions.
