Apple has officially released its latest software update, iOS 26, marking the most significant enhancement to iPhone software in years. This new version introduces a striking design known as Liquid Glass and a range of innovative features that aim to improve user experience. Users still have the option to remain on iOS 18, which will continue to receive security updates for a limited time.

Explore the New Features

One of the standout additions to iOS 26 is the ability to create polls within the Messages app. Users can simply tap the plus sign next to the message input box, select “Polls,” and enter their options. For those looking to customize their chat experience, there is now an option to set a unique background. This feature is shared with other participants, provided their devices are also running the updated software.

Another notable improvement is in the realm of phone calls. The Call Screening feature filters unknown callers before the phone rings. By navigating to Settings > Apps > Phone and selecting “Ask Reason for Calling,” users can see the caller’s identity and purpose on the lock screen. Additionally, the new Hold Assist feature listens to hold music and notifies users when a representative picks up the call.

In the Clock app, users can now customize their snooze duration, choosing anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes, rather than being limited to the traditional nine-minute option.

Enhancements in Photos and Ringtones

The Photos app has been upgraded to allow users to create 3D images by tapping the new Spatial icon located in the upper right corner. This feature works with both new and existing photos. While sharing these 3D images may not be feasible, users can set them as their lock screen wallpaper. Additionally, a new tool for identifying and merging duplicate photos can be accessed under “Collections” in the app.

Ringtone creation has also been simplified; users can now generate a ringtone from any supported audio file. By opening the file in the Files app, selecting “Share,” and tapping “Use as Ringtone,” customization is just a few taps away.

A new app called Preview has been introduced for document scanning and PDF editing. Users can add markups, fill out forms, and even sign documents using their finger, streamlining the process of managing important paperwork.

The Liquid Glass design may be too vibrant for some users. Those preferring a more subdued interface can adjust the appearance by navigating to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, then activating the “Reduce Transparency” option.

While initial impressions of iOS 26 may vary, it is common for users to experience a temporary decrease in battery life immediately after installation. According to Apple, this is a normal phenomenon as the system organizes data in the background.

As iOS 26 becomes available to users worldwide, the response to these new features and changes will likely shape how Apple continues to update its software in the coming years.
