Honda Unveils WN7, Its First Full-Size Electric Motorcycle

Honda has officially launched its first full-size electric motorcycle, the WN7, during the EICMA 2025 event in Milan. This unveiling marks a significant step for the company, which has been gradually expanding its electric vehicle offerings. The WN7 is designed as a naked street bike, positioned within Honda’s “FUN” category and is not merely a compliance model or a modest scooter. It aims to cater to urban commuters while offering performance that rivals traditional motorcycles.

With a peak output of 50 kW (approximately 67 hp), the WN7 is comparable to a 600cc internal combustion motorcycle. It boasts 100 Nm of torque, providing quick acceleration and dynamic handling, making it suitable for both city commuting and highway travel. Honda’s developers emphasize a design philosophy dubbed “Be the wind,” which aims to create a ride experience that is quiet and immersive, allowing riders to connect with their surroundings while enjoying the benefits of electric torque.

Innovative Design and Engineering Features

The aesthetic of the WN7 is striking, featuring a sharp silhouette complemented by a horizontal LED light bar at the front, which Honda indicates will be a signature element across its electric lineup. A unique color scheme is introduced with a sleek black body that has golden mechanical accents, further enhancing its appeal.

One of the standout engineering features is the frameless chassis design. Honda employs the rigid aluminum battery case as a central structure, linking both the front steering head and the rear swingarm pivot directly to it. This approach not only reduces weight but also improves handling by centralizing mass. This design strategy has been increasingly adopted by other electric motorcycle manufacturers, such as LiveWire with its S2 Arrow platform.

The WN7 is powered by a new liquid-cooled motor, which includes a built-in inverter. This setup delivers power to the rear wheel through a newly designed gearbox, ensuring a quiet, clean, and responsive ride—ideal for commuting or light touring.

Battery Life and Charging Capabilities

Equipped with a fixed 9.3 kWh battery, the WN7 supports both CCS2 fast charging and Type 2 charging, allowing users to recharge from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes. The motorcycle offers a claimed range of 140 km (approximately 87 miles) per charge under WMTC standards. Additional features include regenerative braking with customizable deceleration levels and a slow-speed walk mode, which aids in parking and maneuverability.

While specific pricing and market release dates have not yet been disclosed, Honda has confirmed that the WN7 will be manufactured in Japan and distributed in regions where electrification is progressing. This statement raises questions about potential availability in North America, where the electric motorcycle market has been expanding rapidly.
