Adobe Unveils AI Tools for Effortless Video Editing at Max Conference

At the recent Max Conference held in September 2023, Adobe showcased a series of innovative AI tools designed to simplify video editing. Among these experimental tools, known as “sneaks,” is the impressive Project Frame Forward, which allows users to apply changes made to a single frame across an entire video. This capability streamlines the editing process, making it more intuitive and less time-consuming for creators.

During the demonstration, Adobe illustrated how Frame Forward can effortlessly identify and remove objects or people within a video. By simply selecting an individual in the first frame, the tool automatically replaces the subject with a background that blends seamlessly into the surrounding scene. This advancement mirrors existing features in Adobe’s Photoshop, such as Context-aware Fill and Remove Background, but elevates the process to an entirely new level for video editors.

Users can enhance their footage even further by inserting objects directly into the video. By drawing a placement outline and providing AI-generated prompts, editors can add elements that react contextually to the environment. For instance, a generated puddle in the demonstration reflected the movement of a cat already present in the footage, showcasing the potential for realistic integration of new elements.

Revolutionizing Light and Sound with AI

In addition to Frame Forward, Adobe introduced Project Light Touch, which harnesses generative AI to manipulate light sources in photographs. This tool allows users to adjust the direction of lighting, simulate additional light sources, and control the diffusion of light and shadow in real-time. For example, it can create the effect of a pumpkin illuminated from within, transitioning a scene from daylight to night with dynamic lighting adjustments.

Another notable tool, Project Clean Take, focuses on audio editing. This feature enables users to modify speech delivery and emotion without the need to re-record clips. By using AI prompts, editors can change the tone of a voice to sound happier or more inquisitive, or even replace specific words while maintaining the speaker’s unique vocal characteristics. Additionally, it can isolate background noises, allowing for selective adjustments to enhance overall audio clarity.

Future Prospects for Adobe’s Experimental Tools

These tools represent just a fraction of the experimental capabilities showcased at the Adobe Max event. Other projects include Project Surface Swap, which instantly alters the material or texture of objects, Project Turn Style, enabling 3D-like rotations of images, and Project New Depths, allowing for 3D-like editing of photographs where inserted objects can be partially obscured by their surroundings.

While these sneaks are not yet available for public use and may not become permanent features in Adobe’s Creative Cloud software or Firefly applications, many previous sneaks have transitioned into fully developed tools. Given the success of similar projects, there is a strong possibility that some of these experimental features will soon empower creatives across various industries.
