Miriam “Mimi” C. Brody, a cherished member of the Torrance community and dedicated volunteer, passed away on August 10, 2025, in Torrance, California. She was surrounded by loved ones and the music she adored, leaving behind a legacy of service and compassion.

Born in 1927 in Los Angeles, Mimi spent the majority of her life in Southern California. After her college years at the University of California, Berkeley, she returned to the region where she met her husband, Robert “Bob” Brody. In the late 1960s, the couple relocated to Torrance as Bob began his career at Harvey Aluminum.

A Life Dedicated to Service

Following the move, Mimi immersed herself in community service, particularly at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. She became an integral part of the hospital, volunteering for over 56 years and accumulating more than 33,000 hours of service. Her roles included past president of the Auxiliary, co-manager of the gift shop, and a volunteer in the outpatient pharmacy and information desks. Notably, she continued to volunteer until just a week before her passing.

Her commitment to Torrance Memorial not only showcased her dedication but also provided her with a sense of community and purpose. She was beloved by fellow volunteers, hospital staff, and patients alike, all of whom recognized her unwavering spirit and kindness. Mimi’s contributions were celebrated at a reception held at the hospital on August 14, attended by family, friends, and colleagues.

A Loving Family Legacy

Mimi is survived by her daughters, Marilyn and Jill, along with her grandchildren, Rebecca and Daniel, and great-granddaughter Karlee. Her family remembers her as a devoted mother and grandmother who instilled in them the values of kindness and community service.

Services were conducted at Green Hills on August 13, where family and friends gathered to honor her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Torrance Memorial Foundation in her memory. Mimi’s legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.

As the community reflects on her life, many take comfort in the impact she made and the bonds she forged throughout her years of volunteering. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered, with her memory serving as a blessing to all.
