Community Mourns Loss of Miriam “Mimi” C. Brody, 98, Philanthropist

Miriam “Mimi” C. Brody, a beloved figure in the Torrance community, passed away on August 10, 2025, at the age of 98. Surrounded by family and the music she cherished, her departure marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to service and community involvement.
Born in 1927 in Los Angeles, Mimi spent most of her life in southern California, except for her college years at University of California, Berkeley. After completing her education, she returned to the region, where she eventually met and married Robert “Bob” Brody. In the late 1960s, the family moved to Torrance, California, to support Bob’s career with Harvey Aluminum.
Legacy of Service at Torrance Memorial
Once settled in Torrance, Mimi found her calling through volunteer work at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Her commitment to the hospital spanned an impressive 56 years, making her the longest-serving volunteer in its history. Over her tenure, she contributed more than 33,000 hours of service, which included roles as past-president of the Auxiliary, co-manager of the gift shop, and volunteer in various departments, including the out-patient pharmacy and information desks.
Mimi’s dedication to her community was unwavering. She continued to volunteer actively until just a week before her passing, demonstrating her deep commitment to helping others. Her contributions not only provided vital support to patients and staff but also fostered a sense of community among fellow volunteers.
Celebrating a Life Well-Lived
Mimi is survived by her daughters, Marilyn and Jill, along with her grandchildren, Rebecca and Daniel, and great-granddaughter Karlee. A service was held at Green Hills Memorial Park on August 13, followed by a reception at Torrance Memorial on August 14. Family, friends, and hospital staff gathered to share stories and celebrate her life, reflecting on the indelible mark she left on the community.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Torrance Memorial Foundation in Mimi’s honor, ensuring her legacy of service continues to impact others. As family and friends remember her well-lived life, they take comfort in her lasting influence and the love she shared with those around her.
Miriam “Mimi” C. Brody will be dearly missed and forever remembered. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
