The Buffalo Museum of Science is set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its popular BubbleFEST this weekend, an event that has captivated visitors of all ages since its inception. Scheduled for March 16, 2024, the festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a special VIP hour for members from 9 to 10 a.m. This year’s celebration promises an array of bubble-related activities, showcasing bubbles of various sizes, including both small bubbles that can be held in hand and giant bubbles that visitors can step inside.

Ben Frawley, the museum’s facilitator of learning, highlighted the main attraction: “The number one thing you’re going to see when you’re coming into the Buffalo Museum of Science for BubbleFEST is going to be, of course, bubbles.” Frawley emphasized the educational aspect of the event, which aims to spark curiosity and show children how science relates to their everyday experiences. He noted, “We put people, especially the kids, inside of bubbles, and we use that bubble solution to really take a look at some of the household materials that are all around us.”

Engaging Science for All Ages

BubbleFEST is designed to encourage children to explore scientific concepts in a fun and interactive environment. According to Frawley, this approach provides children with a solid foundation, enabling them to take the principles of science home. “It gives kids a really good jumping off point,” he explained, highlighting the event’s role in fostering a lifelong interest in science.

This year, the festivities extend beyond the daytime event with the introduction of BubbleFEST After Dark on the evening of March 15, 2024. This exclusive 21+ event transforms the museum into a bubble-filled playground for adults. Attendees can enjoy various bubble stations, a foam zone, music, and drinks available for purchase.

Gary Siddall, the museum’s president and CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the event’s ability to connect people. “It brings people back, it brings people together,” he said. Siddall noted that whether families are returning as their children grow older or welcoming new members who are experiencing science for the first time, BubbleFEST serves as an engaging entry point into the world of exploration.

Tickets and Information

Tickets for both BubbleFEST and BubbleFEST After Dark are available through the museum’s website, offering an opportunity for the community to participate in a celebration that blends fun with learning.

The Buffalo Museum of Science continues to be a vital resource for education and entertainment, and this year’s BubbleFEST promises to uphold that legacy while marking an important milestone in its history.
