Deputies from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) brought holiday joy to local children during two “Shop with a Cop” events held on December 9, 2023. This initiative, designed to foster community spirit, involved nearly three dozen deputies who escorted children on festive shopping trips in Prescott and Cottonwood.

In Prescott, the day began with a lively 13-mile parade featuring lights and sirens, creating an exciting atmosphere for the children. Following the parade, deputies and young shoppers made their way to the Walmart on Gail Gardner Way, where they participated in the annual shopping spree. Among the participants was the beloved YCSO mascot, Deputy Do Right, who added to the festive spirit of the event.

The Cottonwood event saw participation from an additional dozen deputies, all committed to making the holiday season brighter for local youth. Santa made a memorable appearance at both locations, arriving by helicopter, much to the delight of the children present.

Honoring Fallen Veterans

The holiday events also included a poignant tribute to two late law enforcement veterans. The Prescott Police Department honored Sgt Rick ‘R-Lo’ Lopez of YCSO and Mark McClain, a respected member of the Prescott community, both of whom passed away in September. Their contributions to the “Shop with a Cop” program were recognized, reminding attendees of the community’s commitment to supporting one another.

YCSO expressed gratitude to Prescott PD for incorporating this heartfelt tribute, emphasizing the importance of remembering those who have served in law enforcement.

As the festivities concluded, YCSO looked to the future, planning to continue this charitable initiative in subsequent years. Their message resonated with hope for a safe and joyful holiday season, reinforcing the bond between law enforcement and the communities they serve. These events not only spread joy during the festive season but also help to strengthen community ties throughout the year.
