Volunteers Needed for 2026 Longview Homeless Count on January 22
The North East Texas Homeless Consortium, in collaboration with the City of Longview, is calling for adult volunteers for the upcoming 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count scheduled for January 22, 2026. This annual census aims to assess the local homeless population and is essential for obtaining federal and state funding to support housing and social services in the area.
The PIT Count adheres to specific guidelines established by the Texas Homeless Network to ensure a thorough and respectful evaluation of individuals experiencing homelessness. City officials emphasize the importance of this accurate assessment in understanding the needs of the community.
To participate, all volunteers are required to undergo a training session lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. Multiple training options are available, allowing volunteers to choose between online and in-person sessions.
Training Schedule and Locations
Online training sessions are scheduled at 10:00 and 14:00 on January 5, January 12, and January 19. Volunteers can join the 10:00 session by visiting meet.google.com/kqo-ofhr-bkj or by calling +1 346-314-0381 (PIN: 466 068 527). For the 14:00 session, participants can access it through meet.google.com/kgq-hezt-wbf or by calling +1 319-449-2952 (PIN: 840 293 031).
An in-person training session will also be held on January 21, at 10:00 in the Moeschle Room of the Longview Public Library, located at 222 W. Cotton St. in Longview.
On the same day as the PIT Count, the Longview community will host its Eighth Annual Homeless Resource Day at the Longview Exhibit Building. This event complements the count by providing immediate assistance, connecting individuals in need with local health services, food, and essential resources.
Participants in the Homeless Resource Day will have access to various support services, showcasing the community’s commitment to addressing homelessness and providing necessary aid to those who require it.
The involvement of volunteers is critical to the success of this initiative and to enhancing the lives of vulnerable populations within Longview. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to sign up and attend the training sessions to ensure an effective and compassionate count.
