Syracuse University is set to host two significant showcase events aimed at highlighting areas of distinctive excellence as part of its academic strategic plan, “Leading With Distinction.” The events will bring together the campus community to explore key priorities and engage in discussions surrounding these themes.

Upcoming Events Focused on Veterans and Experiential Inquiry

The first showcase will take place on October 20, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Schine Student Center, Rooms 228 and 229. This event will focus on Veterans and Military Families, featuring presentations, breakout sessions, and group discussions. Participants are encouraged to register online to attend.

Jamie Winders, vice provost for faculty affairs, will facilitate the event and deliver introductory remarks. Following these remarks, attendees can participate in two breakout sessions designed to foster deeper understanding and engagement:

  • Incorporating Veterans Into the Curriculum: This session will include contributions from Joseph Ditre, professor of psychology and director of the Center for Health Behavior Research and Innovation; Stacy Hawkins, managing director for research and evaluation at the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families; and Eileen Schell, professor of writing studies, rhetoric and composition.
  • Veterans and Inclusive Pedagogy: Panelists for this session will include Liz Green, executive director of the student experience at the College of Professional Studies; Rob Pusch, assistant teaching professor at the School of Education; and Milton Santiago, assistant professor of visual communications and co-director of the Advanced Military Visual Journalism program.

The event will conclude with a discussion featuring Kelly Chandler-Olcott, dean of the School of Education, and Ron Novack, director of the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, among others, focusing on the experiences of veteran and student service members.

Second Showcase to Highlight Experiential Inquiry

The second event, which will center on Experiential Inquiry, is scheduled for February 23, 2026, at 3 p.m. This showcase will take place at Room 304 of the Schine Student Center. Additional details will be made available on the University Events Calendar as the date approaches.
