Santa Clarita has made significant strides in enhancing community spaces with the completion of multiple key projects over the past year. Notable achievements include the grand opening of the historic Pioneer Oil Refinery Park and the recent River of Lights Illumination Ceremony at Central Park. These initiatives reflect a commitment to investing in the community, cultivating environments that promote recreation and social interaction.

Next week, families will celebrate the revitalization of Old Orchard Park, which has undergone an extensive renovation. The redesigned playground now features a climbing wall, rope ladder, slide, and turf mound, all designed for adventure and shaded for comfort throughout the year. The project also prioritized accessibility, introducing a new restroom building compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Active recreation is at the forefront of the renovations. The basketball court has been re-striped to accommodate pickleball, and a new multi-sport court enhances options for basketball and futsal. The grand opening event will include a futsal demonstration, showcasing the sport’s skills and fast-paced action, while a striking new art installation, “The Dreams of the Golden Oak,” serves as a tribute to the community’s heritage.

Expansion Plans for David March Park

Residents can also anticipate the expansion of David March Park, currently closed for construction. Scheduled for reopening in early 2026, the upgraded park will feature outdoor exercise equipment, a covered picnic pavilion, and an additional basketball court. Notably, the project includes the construction of the city’s second exercise staircase, a 116-step climb designed to offer scenic views of the surrounding area. A new baseball field with shaded seating will also be part of the renovations, ensuring David March Park remains a hub for outdoor activity and community engagement in the Saugus neighborhood.

The Rink Sports Pavilion: A New Indoor Venue

In the heart of Santa Clarita, the Rink Sports Pavilion has begun construction on a 25,700-square-foot complex aimed at serving both recreational and celebratory needs. This innovative facility will feature a single, adaptable court that can transform into a roller-skating rink, a full-size basketball court, three pickleball courts, or a volleyball court. Designed for versatility, the Pavilion will include disco lights, spectator seating, and a commercial kitchen, positioning it as a venue for sports, birthday parties, and various events.

These capital improvement projects illustrate the city’s dedication to fostering spaces that encourage physical activity, social connection, and recreation. Each project, while unique, contributes to a shared vision of enhancing community life for residents of all ages. Whether through playground adventures, challenging staircase climbs, or roller-skating nights, Santa Clarita is poised to offer new experiences for everyone.
