Fulton Heights Opens Six Homes for Annual Holiday Tour
Fulton Heights is set to welcome the community for its annual holiday house tour on Saturday, December 13, 2024, from 17:00 to 20:00. This year’s event features an impressive six homes, showcasing the rich history and unique architecture of the neighborhood, which is located in Salisbury.
The holiday house tour draws inspiration from the popular OctoberTour event, providing visitors with insights into the historical significance of homes in the area. Since its inception in 2007, this year marks the largest tour to date, reflecting the growing enthusiasm among residents and visitors alike. A suggested donation of $10 will support neighborhood initiatives, and attendees can also purchase the 2026 Fulton Heights calendars, highlighting various houses within the community. In addition, the event aims to collect food for Rowan Helping Ministries, enhancing its charitable impact.
Featured Homes and Their Owners
The tour begins at 406 Mitchell Ave., where visitors will find a charming 1920s craftsman bungalow owned by Virginia Reeve. An avid quilter, Reeve draws inspiration from American and Northern European folk art. She has owned the home since 2011, and it reflects her artistic sensibilities.
Next, at 418 Elm Street, Chelby and Aaron Shay occupy a 1920s brick cottage that combines original features with modern updates. They have resided here since 2024, and the home includes a distinctive pink fireplace and a mint-green bathroom, adding a splash of color to the classic design.
At 219 Maupin Ave., Susan and Scott Marquad own a 1920s four-square house characterized by its large Doric porch, a popular spot for neighborly gatherings. Their home is a testament to the community’s social spirit.
The fourth stop is at 1110 South Fulton Street, where Don and Cindy Hesprich have transformed a 1900 Queen Anne cottage back into a single-family home. Originally a duplex in the mid-20th century, it features remarkable 11-foot-tall doors from 1875, adding historical charm to the residence.
Linda Jones and Buddy Farnan’s home at 715 Wiley Ave. is a 1920s craftsman bungalow that reflects their festive spirit. Farnan, a former holiday decorator, has filled their home with eclectic art, including Native American artifacts and folk art, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
Finally, the tour concludes at 706 Maupin Ave. with the 1930s American bungalow owned by Brian and Betsy Farmer. Since acquiring the home in 1988, the Farmers have expanded the property and developed a passion for Christmas decorations, featuring an extensive nativity scene collection gathered from around the world.
Community Events and Festivities
During the tour, Mayberry Ice Cream will remain open until 21:00, offering refreshments to attendees. Additionally, a live nativity scene will be presented at the nearby Presbyterian Church located at 100 Maupin Ave., providing a festive backdrop for the evening’s events.
Fulton Heights is also preparing for its annual caroling event, scheduled for December 23 at 18:00. Participants will depart from Maupin Avenue Presbyterian Church to bring holiday cheer to the neighborhood’s residents.
