Eliot Community Human Services Expands Care for Youth in Massachusetts
Eliot Community Human Services has been chosen by the Healey-Driscoll administration to enhance its home- and community-based services for children enrolled in MassHealth. This initiative will significantly benefit young MassHealth members, who represent nearly half of all children in Massachusetts. The expansion covers various cities, including Lynn, Lynnfield, Melrose, Nahant, North Reading, Reading, Salem, Saugus, Stoneham, Swampscott, and Wakefield.
The new network marks the first significant expansion of the provider network in more than a decade. According to the press release, this initiative aims to provide more options for families, improve access to high-quality behavioral health services, and ensure that services are geographically accessible throughout the state. Importantly, it also focuses on accommodating families seeking specialized cultural and linguistic care.
Governor Maura Healey stated, “This expansion will strengthen the behavioral health system of support for hundreds of thousands of children and their families here in Massachusetts. Through this important work, we are making sure that our young people get the care that they need.”
In a similar vein, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll emphasized the importance of collaboration, saying, “These agencies will help us provide coordinated, innovative services that are essential to the behavioral and mental health of children here in Massachusetts. We are thrilled to work with our partners to increase access to these services.”
The Chief Operating Officer of Eliot Community Human Services, Aaron Katz, highlighted the significance of this expansion, noting, “This is a new level of service that the state is providing. This is a new attempt to have more specific services to kids and families that really struggle to stay in the community.”
Katz elaborated on the necessity of such care, stating, “This level of care addresses the need for families that struggle to keep their youth out of the emergency room and hospitals, and keep them in school.” He expressed gratitude towards MassHealth for the opportunity, adding, “We are excited to bring these services to Lynn. We’re looking forward to partnering with the community and doing whatever we can to help youth, families, and youth services.”
This expansion reflects a broader commitment to enhancing mental health resources for children across Massachusetts, aiming to create a more supportive environment for vulnerable youth and their families. By increasing access to essential services, the initiative seeks to foster community resilience and improve overall outcomes for children in need.
