Classic Truck Collection of Ex-Walmart COO to Auction in Texas

A remarkable collection of classic vehicles once owned by former Walmart Chief Operating Officer Jack C. Shewmaker will go under the hammer this week. On October 31, 2023, Mecum Auctions will auction 24 cars and trucks, ranging from 1919 to 1962, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
The auction will feature a diverse lineup of vehicles, including iconic models such as a 1939 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton Pickup and a 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Rampside Pickup. All items are listed for sale at “no reserve,” meaning they will be sold to the highest bidder without a minimum price requirement.
Shewmaker’s Legacy in Retail
Jack C. Shewmaker joined Walmart in 1970 under the leadership of founder Sam Walton. Over the years, he held several key positions, including district manager and vice chairman, contributing significantly to the company’s growth and development. He is credited with coining the term “rollback,” which describes Walmart’s sales strategy, and he helped establish the phrase “Everyday Low Prices,” now synonymous with the retail giant.
After retiring in 1988, Shewmaker remained on Walmart’s board until 2008. He passed away in 2010 at the age of 72. His contributions to the business were recognized in 2012 when he was inducted into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame.
A Unique Automotive Collection
The vehicles in Shewmaker’s collection represent a nostalgic era of American automotive history. Among the highlights are a 1919 Ford Model TT Truck and a 1925 Dodge Pickup. The extensive collection showcases various models that reflect the evolution of design and engineering in the early to mid-20th century.
For those interested in classic cars, this auction presents a unique opportunity to acquire a piece of history. The full list of vehicles available for bidding can be viewed on the Mecum Auctions website, where potential buyers can find further details and photographs of the cars.
This auction not only honors the legacy of Jack C. Shewmaker but also offers a chance for collectors and enthusiasts to own a part of automotive history, with bidding expected to attract significant interest.
