Ann L. Flannery, affectionately known as Annie, passed away peacefully at her home in Shenandoah on August 5, 2025, surrounded by her devoted sister, Mary Flannery, and cousin, Ellen Selgrade. Despite her long battle with multiple sclerosis, Annie’s spirit and positivity remained unwavering until her last moments.

Annie was a cherished member of the Shenandoah community, often referred to as the ‘Mayor of Shenny’ for her warm hospitality and welcoming nature. Friends and visitors alike were greeted with open arms and engaging stories, reflecting her vibrant personality. A passionate supporter of Penn State football, she rarely missed a game, which became a tradition she cherished deeply. Her afternoons were often spent with her beloved pets, Frisco and Felicia, providing her with comforting companionship amidst her challenges.

Throughout her journey with illness, Annie remained dedicated to her family, particularly her sister Mary, who stood by her side daily. Their relationship exemplified a rare bond, characterized by lifelong friendship and mutual support. Together, they shared countless memories, laughter, and an understanding that transcended words. Annie’s playful spirit and affection will be remembered fondly by her nieces, nephews, and their children, each of whom felt uniquely favored by her love.

Born in Shenandoah to the late Thomas and Loretta Kleha Flannery, Annie was preceded in death by her brother Tom and sister-in-law Johanna, as well as sister-in-law Mary Catherine Flannery. She graduated from Cardinal Brennan High School before earning a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State and a Master’s degree from Bloomsburg University. Annie worked as a certified Reading Specialist in local parochial schools, making a significant impact on students’ lives through her dedication to education.

Annie is survived by her sister Mary, brothers Francis and Michael Flannery, and brother John Flannery and his wife Maria. She also leaves behind her cousin Ellen and her husband Bo, along with many adoring nieces and nephews, including Thomas (Tip) Flannery, Megan and Pete Pierangeli, Maura and Alan Denenberg, Matthew and Caitlin Flannery, Michael and Julie Flannery, John and Morgan Flannery, and Mary Grace and Stephen Gontzes. Each of them will carry forward the legacy of joy, warmth, and laughter that Annie imparted.

A visitation for family and friends will take place on August 11, 2025, from 8:30 to 10:30 at the Oravitz Home for Funerals, located at 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 in Divine Mercy Parish – Sacred Worship Site – St. Casimir’s, officiated by the Very Rev. James J. Koury. Burial will take place afterward at the Annunciation BVM Cemetery in Shenandoah Heights.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who provided support to Mary and Annie over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Father Walter Ciszek Chapel, honoring the legacy of a family member who was a cousin of Annie’s mother, Loretta. Annie Flannery’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of her family, friends, and community, who will remember her with love and affection.
