Barry Manilow Diagnosed with Lung Cancer, Reschedules Concerts
Barry Manilow has announced that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer, prompting him to reschedule several upcoming concerts. The legendary singer shared the news via social media on Monday, revealing that he will undergo surgery later this month. According to Manilow, doctors identified a cancerous spot on his lung during an MRI conducted to monitor his recovery from a recent bout of bronchitis.
In his statement, the performer expressed relief that the cancer was detected at an early stage, stating, “They caught it very, very early.” He emphasized that he does not anticipate needing more intensive treatment beyond the surgery. “I feel great and have no symptoms,” he added, crediting his medical team for their proactive approach in running tests that typically might not occur.
Concert Rescheduling and Recovery Plans
Due to the required surgery, Manilow has announced that his concerts originally scheduled for January will be postponed to new dates between February and April. He reassured fans that tickets purchased for the January shows will be honored for the rescheduled performances. The singer is particularly looking forward to a series of Valentine’s Day weekend concerts at the Westgate Las Vegas, stating, “Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party.”
In his Instagram post, he expressed his apologies for the inconvenience to fans. “I’m very sorry that you have to change your plans,” he said, highlighting his appreciation for their understanding during this time. Manilow encouraged everyone to be vigilant about their health, urging, “If you have even the slightest symptom… get tested!”
As fans and fellow artists rally around him, Manilow’s optimism about his health journey remains evident. He concluded his message with warm wishes for the holiday season, reflecting a spirit of gratitude amidst the challenges he faces.
