Youth Showcase Their Talents in “Fame Jr.” Performance

The Broadway Theatre League of Utica will present a youth performance of “Fame Jr.” on July 25, 2024, at 5 p.m. at Mohawk Valley Community College. This exciting event marks the culmination of the Stage Ready Summer Camp, which has provided an immersive experience for young performers aged 12 to 18.
Stage Ready Summer Camp Offers Comprehensive Training
The Stage Ready Summer Camp, running from July 14-25, features a schedule from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Led by experienced instructors and directed by Dennis J. Clark, the camp allows participants to explore various facets of theatre. Students engage in acting, choreography, stage management, sound and lighting, set design, costumes, and public relations, gaining hands-on experience in a live production environment.
The first week of the camp takes place at Tabernacle Church, where students will begin the audition process and participate in activities such as set design and marketing. The second week shifts to MVCC’s Schafer Theatre, where participants will focus on dress rehearsals in preparation for the public performance.
Building a Community of Young Artists
Danielle Padula, executive director of Broadway Utica, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming show. “We are so excited to finally present a junior musical and continue various ways to open up the world of theatre to our youth,” she said. “This isn’t just about singing and dancing. It’s about building a community of young artists who will learn the fundamentals of theatre from the ground up.”
Padula emphasized the comprehensive nature of the program, noting that participants will gain insight into all aspects of production, from set design to public relations. “Fame Jr. will give students a comprehensive look at what it takes to bring a production to life. We can’t wait to see how these talented young people will shine on stage — and behind the scenes,” she added.
Tickets for the public performance of “Fame Jr.” can be purchased through the MVCC box office in Francis A. Wilcox Hall, room 106, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets are also available by calling 315-792-5721 or online at www.mvcc.edu.
