The High School Services team at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College recently convened area high school counselors and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) directors on its Valdosta campus. This gathering, held on December 17, 2025, was designed to foster collaboration among educational leaders, focusing on enhancing student success through strong partnerships between the college and local school systems.

Strengthening Educational Partnerships

During the event, attendees explored various pathways available to students through dual enrollment and career-focused education. The conference provided updates on new programs and initiatives, along with guided program tours that facilitated direct engagement with faculty, deans, and college leadership. DeAnnia Clements, President of Wiregrass, emphasized the vital role counselors play in shaping student futures, stating, “Our high school partners play a critical role in helping students discover the opportunities that will shape their futures. Events like this strengthen the bridge between our institutions and ensure we are working together to give every student the chance to succeed. We are grateful for the passion and dedication counselors and CTAE leaders bring to this work each day.”

A central feature of the workshop was a video presentation highlighting former dual enrollment students. This showcased their experiences in transferring coursework from Wiregrass and illustrated how dual enrollment prepared them for their subsequent educational and career paths. Additionally, a slideshow presented success stories of alumni, detailing their current endeavors—some continuing their education at Wiregrass, while others have moved on to universities across the country, joined the military, or secured jobs in local industries.

Insights from Educational and Industry Leaders

The conference included a University Partners Panel, which offered counselors valuable insights into transfer opportunities and articulation pathways. Participating institutions featured Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), Fort Valley State University, Georgia Military College, Mercer University, South Georgia State College, and Valdosta State University.

Following this, an Industry Partners Panel provided a platform for local leaders, including representatives from GAF, to discuss workforce trends and regional employment needs. This emphasis on aligning education with industry demand highlighted the importance of preparing students for the realities of the job market.

Counselors from various schools, including Berrien, Brooks, Citizens Christian, Delta, Echols, Fitzgerald, Georgia Christian, Highland Christian, Irwin, Lanier, Scintilla, Valdosta, Valdosta Virtual, Valwood, Wilcox, and the Wiregrass Regional College and Career Academy (WRCCA), attended the event. Additionally, CTAE directors from Berrien, Brooks, Fitzgerald, and Lowndes counties participated, further enhancing the collaborative spirit of the day.

In its press release, Wiregrass stated, “Wiregrass is proud to partner with area school systems, colleges, and industry leaders to support students at every stage of their educational journey. The college remains committed to expanding opportunities that help students succeed—whether they continue their education, enter the workforce, or serve their communities in meaningful ways.”
