Thomasville City Schools Launches Health Center at Harper Elementary

Thomasville City Schools has inaugurated its first School-Based Health Center (SBHC) at Harper Elementary School, enhancing healthcare accessibility for students and their families. The center, funded by a generous $990,000 grant from the Georgia Department of Education, will provide high-quality medical services directly on campus through a partnership with Primary Care of Southwest Georgia (PCSG).
The SBHC is now operational and available to all students and staff from Thomasville City Schools. Payment options are designed to accommodate various needs, including Medicaid, PeachCare for Kids, private insurance, and a sliding fee scale based on income for uninsured patients. This ensures that no individual is turned away due to financial constraints.
Community Impact and Support
According to Faye Johnson, Director of Student Services, “This center is an investment in our students and families. By removing barriers to healthcare access, we are ensuring that students can focus on learning and thriving in the classroom.” This statement underscores the district’s commitment to fostering an environment where students can prioritize their education without health-related disruptions.
The community is invited to celebrate this significant milestone at a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on September 17, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. The ceremony will take place at Harper Elementary School, located at 520 Fletcher Street, in Thomasville. This event will highlight the collaboration between Thomasville City Schools and PCSG, emphasizing their shared dedication to providing comprehensive, community-centered support for students.
Accessing Healthcare in Schools
The establishment of the SBHC is part of a broader initiative to promote health and wellness among students, particularly in a school setting. By integrating healthcare services within the educational environment, Thomasville City Schools aims to address health issues that can affect academic performance.

This initiative reflects a growing trend in the education sector to prioritize student health as a fundamental component of academic success, ensuring that students can thrive both in and out of the classroom.
