Texas A&M Alum Joins Virginia Tech as New Chemical Engineering Professor
Dr. Anubhav Sarmah, a recent graduate from Texas A&M University, has accepted a position as an assistant professor in the Virginia Tech Department of Chemical Engineering. His appointment signals a new chapter in his academic career, where he aims to leverage his educational background and research expertise.
During his time at Texas A&M, Dr. Sarmah was influenced by several key courses and faculty members that shaped his professional journey. Notably, he highlighted the impact of the graduate mentoring seminar led by Dr. Micah Green and Dr. Martin Sentmanat, as well as the Professional Development for Future Faculty course taught by Dr. Duncan Walker and Dr. Harry Hogan. “Other than the constant support and encouragement provided by Dr. Green, my principal investigator, I really appreciated the overall welcoming and open-door policy employed by the faculty in the chemical engineering department,” Sarmah noted.
Dr. Sarmah’s research primarily focuses on the rapid processing of composites using electromagnetic fields. Currently, he is investigating the fundamental mechanisms behind polymer dynamics and aims to translate these findings to promote sustainable processing of high-performance plastics. His innovative approach reflects a commitment to advancing the field and addressing environmental challenges.
His involvement with the Texas A&M Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association (ChEGSA) also played a significant role in his development as a researcher and presenter. Sarmah served as president of the organization, which has a reputation for fostering strong connections between faculty and students. “The scale at which the ChEGSA operates, especially their annual symposium, is a testament to the incredible relationship that the faculty and the graduate student body share,” he remarked.
As he embarks on his new role at Virginia Tech, Dr. Sarmah expressed enthusiasm for the future. “In the future, I am looking forward to setting up my own lab, interacting with students, and working my way toward tenure,” he stated. His ambition and commitment to education promise to contribute positively to the academic community at Virginia Tech, where he will inspire the next generation of chemical engineers.
Dr. Sarmah’s journey is a reminder of the lasting impact that effective mentorship and supportive academic environments can have on emerging scholars. As he transitions into this new chapter, his dedication to research and education will undoubtedly influence both his students and the broader engineering community.
