A disused barn in Staunton In The Vale may soon become an educational centre dedicated to technology, pending approval from the Newark and Sherwood District Council. The application seeks to convert a barn located at Chapelside Farm on High Street into a modern learning environment aimed at enriching the educational offerings of the nearby Staunton Montessori Nursery School and Teaching Facility.

The barn, which has remained vacant since it was last used as a stable block in 2000, is set to be repurposed into a facility that promotes digital learning and technology education for young people. Plans include a large dividable teaching room, a soundproofed studio space, and dedicated recording facilities. Additional amenities will comprise a waiting room, a meeting room, a kitchen, and accessible toilets, enhancing the overall functionality of the building.

While the exterior of the barn will largely remain unchanged, new doors and windows will be installed on the east elevation, utilizing existing openings. The site already accommodates dedicated parking to support its current use as a day-nursery and tutorial facility, ensuring that the project will not disrupt local traffic patterns.

Support for the project has emerged from the community, notably from local resident Steven Burgess. He described the initiative as “a thoughtful and much-needed investment in the future of our community,” emphasizing that it represents a “positive and forward-thinking proposal that balances preservation with progress.”

The decision regarding the application rests with the Newark and Sherwood District Council, which will evaluate the potential impact of the project on the community and its alignment with local development goals. If approved, the conversion could significantly enhance educational opportunities for young residents in the area.

As the review process unfolds, the community awaits the council’s final decision, which will determine the future of this ambitious educational initiative.
