Local Officials Celebrate Kindergartners’ First Day of School

On September 6, 2023, kindergartners in the Old Rochester Regional School District began their academic journey with a warm welcome from local officials. Superintendent Michael Nelson, Rochester Police Chief Michael Assad Jr., and Lieutenant Zack Dupere rode on Bus 5 alongside the young students to help ease their transition into school life.

The initiative aimed to create a welcoming atmosphere for the children on their first day. Chief Assad explained that the idea was conceived to ensure the students felt comfortable and secure as they embarked on this significant milestone. The bus ride, which started at the Rochester Police station, included the officials boarding with their backpacks and lunch boxes, joining the excited kindergartners for the journey to school.

In total, this marked the third day of the school year for the Old Rochester Regional School District, but it was a particularly special occasion for the new kindergarten students. The presence of local law enforcement and school officials not only provided a sense of safety but also fostered community spirit.

The bus driver, known as Annie, played a crucial role in this event, guiding the children and officials through the morning route. As they made stops to pick up students, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and anticipation.
