Aims Community College Hosts Free Screening of Veteran-Made Films
Aims Community College is set to host a special screening of short films created by female veterans on Wednesday, March 15, 2024. The event will take place from 18:00 to 21:00 in Ballroom A of the Aims Welcome Center, located at 4901 W. 20th St., Greeley, Colorado. This screening showcases the artistic achievements of veterans who participated in a workshop last year.
In November 2022, Aims Community College collaborated with the Patton Veterans Project to conduct the “I Was There Film Workshop.” Under the guidance of Benjamin Patton, the grandson of General George S. Patton, this initiative utilized collaborative filmmaking as a therapeutic tool for veterans. The project aims to alleviate social isolation among veterans while strengthening connections with families and communities.
The Patton Veterans Project focuses on breaking down barriers between veterans and civilians. Through community screenings, it seeks to educate the public about the mental health challenges faced by veterans and military families. According to the organization, storytelling through film can foster understanding and empathy.
The screening is free of charge, and attendees can engage with the filmmakers during a meet-and-greet reception following the event. Doors will open at 17:30, allowing guests time to settle in before the films begin. Those interested in attending can register at Events.Aims.Edu.
This event not only highlights the creativity of female veterans but also emphasizes the importance of community engagement in addressing issues related to mental health and veteran affairs. The films, created during the workshop, will provide insight into the experiences of these veterans, fostering dialogue and understanding within the broader community.
