Target Launches Electric Delivery Fleet in Dallas-Fort Worth Area
Target has announced the deployment of a fleet of 50 Chevrolet BrightDrop electric vans for last-mile deliveries in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This initiative, revealed on October 8, is part of a collaboration with the Frontdoor Collective and Circuit EV Solutions, aimed at enhancing the retailer’s delivery capabilities.
The arrangement involves a “fleet subscription program” through which the Frontdoor Collective provides drivers for the BrightDrop vehicles, utilizing its franchise delivery model. Meanwhile, Circuit EV Solutions is responsible for managing the charging infrastructure and providing fleet support.
In a statement shared on LinkedIn, Gretchen McCarthy, Target’s Chief Supply Chain and Logistics Officer, emphasized the importance of sustainability in their operations. She stated, “As we expand the reach and speed of Target’s last-mile operations for our guests, we’ll continue to look for ways to do it more efficiently and sustainably. Our new electric vehicle partnership with The Frontdoor Collective is an exciting example of that—higher capacity delivery vans that reduce carbon emissions.”
This strategic move aligns with Target’s broader goal of accelerating delivery speeds to better meet customer demand. The retailer has already expanded its next-day delivery services in the Dallas metropolitan area and plans to extend this coverage to additional U.S. markets.
Executives from the Frontdoor Collective, Circuit EV Solutions, and General Motors have expressed optimism about the potential of this electric vehicle program. They believe it will facilitate more sustainable deliveries while addressing common challenges associated with electric delivery at scale, particularly the need for adequate charging infrastructure.
Dan Bourgault, CEO of the Frontdoor Collective, remarked on the significance of the collaboration, stating, “This alliance removes the historic roadblocks to electrifying last-mile delivery. With the launch of this comprehensive solution, we now have the vehicles and infrastructure, and the trained workforce ready to go.”
Target’s initiative reflects a growing trend among major retailers to incorporate electric delivery fleets. Last year, General Motors announced that Walmart would utilize 400 Chevrolet BrightDrop vans for its InHome delivery service in key U.S. markets. Additionally, Amazon has been using electric vehicles produced by Rivian since 2022, delivering millions of packages nationwide.
As companies increasingly focus on sustainability, Target’s use of electric vans represents a significant step toward reducing the carbon footprint associated with logistics and supply chain operations. The success of this program may encourage other retailers to adopt similar strategies, further advancing the transition to electric delivery solutions in the retail sector.
