Polestar 3 Receives Major Upgrades for 2026 Model Year

Polestar has announced significant upgrades for its all-electric crossover, the Polestar 3, set to debut in 2026. The enhancements include a new 800-volt architecture, which promises improved performance and faster charging capabilities. According to CEO Michael Lohscheller, the updates are so extensive that they transform the vehicle into “an entirely new car.”
Power and Efficiency Boosts
The revamped Polestar 3 features a stronger electric architecture, allowing for a peak charging speed of 350 kW. This advancement enables drivers to charge the battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 22 minutes. The introduction of a new permanent magnet synchronous rear motor enhances the vehicle’s power, delivering a maximum output of 500 kW or 671 hp. This rear motor also shifts the driving dynamics to a more rear-biased configuration, improving handling and performance.
Additionally, the front motor now includes a disconnect feature, which activates when the motor is not in use, contributing to greater efficiency. The figures provided are based on the more generous WLTP European cycle, indicating a range of 635 km for the Dual Motor version. In North America, this may translate to approximately 550 km according to the EPA standards. The Performance version is expected to offer a range of 593 km in Europe or around 510 km in North America.
Technological Enhancements
The 2026 Polestar 3 will also benefit from software refinements that enhance steering precision, coupled with the new rear motor and modified anti-roll bars. These improvements aim to provide a more engaging driving experience across all model variants. Notably, the new vehicle will incorporate an advanced Nvidia processor, which will be available as a free upgrade for current Polestar 3 owners, set to roll out in early 2026.
While specific pricing details for the Canadian market remain undisclosed, Polestar plans to launch the upgraded model first in the UK, where demand is highest, before expanding to other markets. The exact launch date is not yet confirmed, but anticipation is building as the company prepares to introduce these significant upgrades to the public.
With these developments, the Polestar 3 is positioned to enhance its competitive edge in the electric vehicle market, offering substantial improvements in both performance and technology. As the launch date approaches, further details regarding pricing and availability are expected to emerge.
