Tabb High School’s field hockey team achieved a remarkable milestone on October 14, 2023, by securing their 100th consecutive victory. The Tigers dominated the game against Smithfield, winning 13-0, an accomplishment that places them among an elite group in Virginia High School League (VHSL) history. Under the leadership of head coach Wendy Wilson, Tabb is now on the hunt for their 12th state championship.

In other sports events across the region, football teams also showcased impressive performances. In the Bay Rivers District, Warhill High School triumphed over York with a decisive score of 35-0. This victory improved Warhill’s record to 3-2, marking their second shutout in 18 meetings against the Falcons, who now sit at 2-2.

The Peninsula District saw Bethel High School defeat Kecoughtan with a staggering score of 53-0. Hampton University recruit Amari Pryear was a standout player, scoring four touchdowns. Bethel’s win not only highlights their strength in local rivalries but also sets a new record for the highest score achieved in their previous 57 matchups. Pryear’s scoring included runs of 71, 11, and 4 yards, alongside an impressive 86-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Alex Lewis.

Woodside High School also made headlines, leveling their record at 2-2 with a 41-21 victory over Menchville. This win ended a three-game losing streak against the Monarchs, although the game was called off with 7:17 left on the clock due to lightning.

In the non-district games, Southampton High School secured a 30-0 victory over Lakeland, leaving the Cavaliers with an 0-4 record.

In field hockey, the competitive landscape remained fierce. Following Tabb’s historic win, Norfolk Academy also displayed dominance, defeating Nansemond-Suffolk Academy with an 8-0 scoreline. Allie Tyszko led the charge with three goals and an assist, while teammates Sophia Galiotos and Livi Kohler also contributed with multiple goals.

Cox High School continued to assert its strength, overpowering Green Run with an 18-0 victory, thanks to Bella Glenn’s four goals and Leah Daves’ hat trick. The 757Teamz Top 15 rankings highlight the competitive nature of regional field hockey, with Tabb currently sitting atop the list.

As the season progresses, the focus remains on the intense rivalries and the pursuit of championships. Coaches and players alike emphasize the importance of teamwork and strategy as they prepare for upcoming matches.

With these exciting developments in local sports, the community is left eagerly anticipating what the rest of the season holds for these talented teams.
