The Placer County Planning Commission has officially approved a comprehensive modernization plan for the Cisco Grove Campground, transforming it into a resort-style retreat. This initiative, led by Sun NG Cisco Grove RV Inc., aims to enhance the outdoor experience for visitors while retaining the campground’s original charm, located just off Interstate 80 near Donner Summit.

The revamped Cisco Grove Campground will maintain its 144 traditional campsites while introducing a variety of modern amenities designed to enrich the visitor experience. Planned upgrades include a refurbished general store and welcome center, a swimming pool, and a snow tubing hill complete with a pavilion for winter activities. The project also features a miniature golf course, pickleball courts, a crafts pavilion, and a paddle boat dock. These enhancements are tailored specifically for registered campers, as the site will not accommodate public day use.

Year-Round Appeal and Community Considerations

The campground is set to operate regularly from mid-May to mid-October for both tent and RV camping, with limited RV options available from October through May. This schedule ensures that outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the facilities year-round. Additionally, the project includes plans for on-site employee housing, capable of accommodating up to 32 staff members, underscoring a commitment to staff welfare and operational efficiency.

Fire safety has also been a critical focus in the campground’s redesign. Collaborating with CAL FIRE, the project will incorporate fire-safe design standards to address the ongoing threat of wildfires. This proactive measure is particularly significant given the campground’s location, which straddles the boundary of Placer and Nevada counties.

Visitor Impact and Future Prospects

The Cisco Grove Campground, located at 48415 Hampshire Rocks Road, attracts an average of 47,000 visitors annually. The planned upgrades aim not only to enhance the experience for these visitors but also to promote a sense of community among campers. With its blend of recreational offerings and safety features, the campground is poised to become a premier destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

As the project moves forward, stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact these changes will bring to the community and the local economy. The enhancements signal a promising future for the Cisco Grove Campground, blending tradition with modern comforts while prioritizing safety and community engagement.
