Local Dispensary Offers $100 Cannabis Bags for $1 at Charity Event
A cannabis dispensary in Haledon, New Jersey, plans to sell $100 “mystery” stash bags for just $1 each to promote legal access and raise awareness for criminal justice reform. Molly Ann Farms, located at 265 Belmont Ave., will launch this initiative on November 18, 2023, at 8 a.m. The first 100 eligible customers from Haledon, Paterson, and Prospect Park will be able to purchase one stash bag each.
This event marks the second edition of the CannUnity Culture Collective, which supports the Last Prisoner Project, a nonprofit organization based in Denver. Founded in September 2019, the Last Prisoner Project is dedicated to decriminalizing cannabis and providing pro bono legal support for those incarcerated for offenses related to cannabis. The organization has engaged 73 law firms across the United States to assist in filing motions for compassionate release.
Gabriella Wilday, co-founder of Molly Ann Farms, emphasized the importance of making quality cannabis accessible to everyone, not just those with significant financial means. “This is about common ground,” Wilday stated. “It’s about honoring where we came from, making space for everyone to be part of the culture, and showing that cannabis can be both a business and a community builder.”
The stash bags will include an assortment of cannabis flower, edibles, pre-rolls, and vapes, all donated by at least 15 partner brands, including Clade 9 and New Jersey cultivator FullTilt Labs. At the inaugural CannUnity event in August, Molly Ann Farms raised over $750 for the Last Prisoner Project through customer contributions and matching funds.
The initiative aims to shed light on the ongoing issues related to cannabis criminalization, especially as many states have moved to legalize its use. For instance, in June 2024, Maryland Governor Wes Moore issued an executive order that pardoned 175,000 convictions for simple possession of cannabis, marking the largest clemency action in U.S. history.
Molly Ann Farms’ effort highlights the intersection of cannabis commerce and community advocacy, aiming to not only provide legal access but also to foster a sense of inclusion within the cannabis culture. The dispensary invites community members to participate in this event and engage with an important cause while enjoying quality cannabis products at a significantly reduced price.
