Clayton County K-9s Receive Protective Body Armor Donations

Three K-9s from the Clayton County Police Department have received protective body armor donations, enhancing their safety during law enforcement duties. The donations, which include bullet and stab protective vests, were made possible through the efforts of Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting working dogs.
Founded in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a recognized 501(c)(3) charity focused on providing bullet and stab protective vests and various forms of assistance to law enforcement dogs across the United States. The organization has made significant contributions to K-9 safety, having supplied over 5,882 vests to dogs in all 50 states, with a total value exceeding $6.9 million. This support comes from a combination of private and corporate donations.
The body armor provided to the Clayton County K-9s, named Ozzy, Metro, and Konan, is custom-fitted, U.S.-made, and certified by the National Institute of Justice. The vests are designed to protect K-9 officers from potential threats, ensuring their safety while performing essential duties in the community.
Eligibility for the program extends to U.S. K-9s that are at least 20 months old, actively employed, and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. Additionally, K-9s with expired vests are also eligible for this vital support.
The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the critical role K-9s play in law enforcement. These trained animals assist in various operations, contributing significantly to public safety and crime prevention. The donation of body armor not only enhances their protective measures but also underscores the commitment of organizations like Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. to ensure the well-being of these dedicated service animals.
