Subway Introduces Four New Protein-Packed Sandwiches

Subway has expanded its menu with the introduction of four new protein-packed sandwiches designed for health-conscious consumers. Announced on **September 10, 2023**, the renewed Fresh Fit menu features offerings with **20 grams or more of protein**, a full serving of vegetables, and **fewer than 500 calories** in each six-inch sandwich. These sandwiches will be available nationwide in the **United States** starting **September 17, 2023**.
The new sandwiches are crafted on multigrain bread and include a variety of flavorful options. The **Grilled Chicken & Avocado** sandwich, priced at **$8.31**, combines grilled chicken with smashed avocado, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and a smoky Baja Chipotle sauce, delivering **35 grams of protein**. Another option, the **Ham & Turkey Stacker** at **$6.91**, features oven-roasted turkey and Black Forest ham, accompanied by similar vegetables and yellow mustard, providing **20 grams of protein**.
For those looking for bold flavors, the **Seasoned Steak & Avocado** sandwich is priced at **$7.33** and includes steak, smashed avocado, and a selection of fresh vegetables, also offering **35 grams of protein**. The final option, the **Turkey & Ranch Delite**, is available for **$8.87** and includes oven-roasted turkey, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, and a drizzle of Peppercorn Ranch, contributing **26 grams of protein**.
Paul Fabre, Senior Vice President of Global Culinary and Innovation at Subway, emphasized the brand’s commitment to health with this menu update. He stated, “With the return of Fresh Fit to Subway’s menu, our guests can feel confident that there is a convenient, delicious option crafted for them at a great price — and one their macros will love even more.”
Subway originally launched its Fresh Fit menu in **2007**, aiming to provide healthier sandwich options with lower calorie and fat content. This initiative proved to be highly successful, generating approximately **$500 million** in revenue that year. The menu even became a cultural reference in the film “Austin Powers in Goldmember,” where the character Fat Bastard loses weight thanks to the “Subway diet.”
The introduction of these new sandwiches coincides with a broader trend in the food industry known as “protein-maxxing,” where companies are increasingly infusing protein into various products, from frozen meals to snacks. Recently, **Starbucks** announced that its cafes in the U.S. and **Canada** will permanently offer Protein Cold Foams and a line of Protein Lattes made with protein-boosted milk, starting **September 29, 2023**.
With these additions, Subway continues to cater to the growing demand for nutritious meal options, appealing to fitness enthusiasts and casual diners alike.
