Unlock Your Artistic Potential with New Classes at Sertoma Arts Center
The Sertoma Arts Center in Raleigh is launching a series of winter and spring classes aimed at fostering creativity among participants of all ages. The offerings cater to toddlers, teens, and adults, featuring diverse activities such as preschool art, jewelry making, and sensory-friendly sessions, all designed to engage the community in artistic expression.
Classes for Young Artists
For the youngest attendees, the center will host the “Mini Monet” class, instructed by Michelle Davis Petelinz. This program, tailored for children aged 1.5 to 2.5, emphasizes art while also developing motor and social skills. Children aged 7 to 11 can explore their imaginations in “Fantastic Beasts and How to Make Them,” where they will create mythical creatures using various materials. The center also offers sketchbook drawing classes for teens, focusing on techniques to help them cultivate their personal artistic style.
Adults eager to delve into new creative outlets can enroll in classes such as “Embroidered Portraits,” which teaches participants how to stitch detailed portraits. Another option, “The Artist’s Way for Women Part I,” focuses on unlocking creative potential, providing a supportive environment for personal exploration. For those interested in the application of color theory, “Exploring Color Theory in Landscape Painting” offers a practical approach through hands-on painting experiences.
Advanced Techniques and New Mediums
The Sertoma Arts Center also provides opportunities for more advanced artistic exploration. The class “Exploring Narrative Through the Figure,” led by instructor Sina Bennett, focuses on creating figurative sculptures that express emotion and tell stories. For those seeking precision, the “Finding Bits and Bobs” jewelry-making class emphasizes intricate design details that can elevate any piece.
Newcomers to glass art can participate in “Intro to Fused Mosaics,” a beginner-friendly course that allows students to create functional art from various materials, including recycled items.
In addition to these classes, the Sertoma Arts Center offers “Sensory Friendly Creative Saturdays.” These sessions are specifically designed for individuals with sensory processing challenges, providing quieter spaces, reduced lighting, and noise-canceling headsets to ensure a comfortable environment for participants of all ages and abilities.
The City of Raleigh emphasizes the importance of these programs in promoting artistic engagement within the community. With classes suitable for every age and skill level, the Sertoma Arts Center stands as a vibrant hub for creativity and expression in the heart of Raleigh.
