Syracuse University Showcases Distinctive Excellence in Two Events
Syracuse University is set to host two significant showcase events this academic year, aimed at highlighting areas of distinctive excellence and advancing priorities outlined in the University’s academic strategic plan, titled “Leading With Distinction.” These gatherings offer an opportunity for the campus community to engage in meaningful discussions and explore critical themes.
The first showcase will focus on Veterans and Military Families, taking place on October 20, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Schine Student Center, Rooms 228 and 229. Participants are encouraged to register online to join in on the discussions. Jamie Winders, vice provost for faculty affairs, will facilitate the event and deliver introductory remarks.
Attendees can look forward to two breakout sessions during this showcase. The first session, titled “Incorporating Veterans Into the Curriculum,” features an esteemed panel, including Joseph Ditre, a professor of psychology and director of the Center for Health Behavior Research and Innovation at the College of Arts and Sciences; Stacy Hawkins, managing director for research and evaluation at the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families; and Eileen Schell, professor of writing studies, rhetoric and composition at the College of Arts and Sciences.
The second breakout session, “Veterans and Inclusive Pedagogy,” will include contributions from Liz Green, executive director of the student experience at the College of Professional Studies; Rob Pusch, assistant teaching professor at the School of Education; and Milton Santiago, assistant professor of visual communications and co-director of the Advanced Military Visual Journalism program at the Newhouse School.
A closing discussion will feature Kelly Chandler-Olcott, dean of the School of Education, and Ron Novack, director of the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, along with other panelists. This segment will focus on enhancing the experiences of veteran and student service members.
The second showcase event, centered on Experiential Inquiry, is scheduled for February 23, 2026, at 3 p.m. in the Schine Student Center, Room 304. Additional details will be made available on the University Events Calendar closer to the date.
