Reading Hospital Supplies Local Students for New School Year

Reading Hospital took significant steps to support local students as they prepare for the new school year by hosting its 16th annual “Stuff the Bus” event on September 6, 2023. This initiative, organized by the hospital’s Magnet Nurse Champions, aims to provide essential back-to-school supplies to the Reading School District, benefiting 25 nursing offices and 92 classrooms.
The event saw participation from over 100 hospital departments, each creating “dream boxes” filled with a variety of donated items. These supplies included folders, notebooks, pencils, markers, crayons, tissues, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes. Such contributions are crucial as they ensure students have the tools they need to succeed academically.
Nicole Betton, an operating room nurse and chair of the Reading Hospital Magnet Champion Team, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to the community. “Caring and compassion come naturally to the staff at Reading Hospital,” Betton stated. “We want the teachers and children in our community to know we are here for them and to ensure they have the resources necessary for success in school.”
Dr. Charles F. Barbera, president and CEO of Reading Hospital, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the event as a reflection of the hospital’s core values. “Our team members are the heart and soul of our hospital,” Dr. Barbera noted. “Their commitment to the community exemplifies our mission and values. They continue to make a difference both inside and outside of the hospital walls, and I commend them for their efforts.”
The “Stuff the Bus” event not only fosters a sense of community but also addresses the growing need for educational supplies as students return to school. By engaging hospital staff in this meaningful initiative, Reading Hospital reinforces its dedication to enhancing the lives of those it serves, ensuring that students are well-equipped for the challenges of the upcoming academic year.
