A disused barn in Staunton In The Vale may soon become a vibrant educational centre if a proposal is approved. The application, submitted to the Newark and Sherwood District Council, seeks to convert a former stable block at Chapelside Farm on High Street into a dedicated space for teaching young people about technology. This barn has remained empty since the year 2000, following its previous use for housing livestock.

The driving force behind this initiative is to enhance the offerings at the Staunton Montessori Nursery School and Teaching Facility. The plan encompasses the creation of a modern and flexible learning environment that incorporates digital education. Key features of the proposed facility include a large, dividable teaching room, a soundproof studio space, and dedicated recording facilities. Additional amenities such as a waiting room, meeting room, kitchen, and accessible toilets are also part of the design.

Most of the barn’s exterior will retain its current appearance, with modifications limited to adding new doors and windows to the east elevation, which will utilize existing openings. Importantly, dedicated parking is already available on-site, supporting its existing functions as a day nursery and tutorial facility.

Local residents have shown strong support for the proposal. Among its advocates is Steven Burgess, who praised the plans as “a thoughtful and much-needed investment in the future of our community.” He described the initiative as a “positive and forward-thinking proposal that balances preservation with progress.”

A final decision regarding the application will be made by the Newark and Sherwood District Council, with community members eagerly awaiting the outcome. The transformation of the barn could play a significant role in enhancing educational opportunities in the area, aligning with current trends that emphasize the importance of technology in modern education.
