Jamey Storey Enhances Career with MBA from CU Denver

Jamey Storey has successfully integrated academic growth with professional development through his pursuit of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) while working full-time. After earning his undergraduate degree in supply chain management from Michigan State University, Storey relocated to Denver, where he seized the opportunity to further his education at CU Denver. Over the course of two and a half years, he completed his MBA at the Business School while employed at VF Corporation, a prominent company that owns several popular apparel and footwear brands, including North Face, Vans, Jansport, and Timberland.
Storey currently holds the position of senior strategy analyst in supply chain network optimization at VF Corporation’s downtown Denver headquarters. His role involves driving strategic initiatives, building data-driven models, and supporting long-term growth plans that enhance customer experience.
Balancing Work and Education
Storey emphasized the importance of finding an academic program that would allow him to continue his career while furthering his education. “I wanted a program that would allow me to continue working full-time while gaining more experience,” he stated. Storey chose CU Denver for its local presence and the flexibility of both in-person and hybrid course options.
To balance his professional and academic responsibilities, Storey meticulously planned his schedule, enrolling in two courses each semester and additional classes during the summer. He noted that CU Denver’s MBA program is particularly appealing due to the diverse professionals it attracts, all of whom contribute to a rich learning environment.
Applying Knowledge to Real-World Scenarios
Throughout his MBA journey, Storey focused on business strategy, a specialization that has proven beneficial in his current role. “I analyze strategies and model scenarios to determine how we can utilize our assets more effectively and accelerate growth,” he explained. He highlighted the significance of the Visionary Leadership course, which encouraged innovative thinking and practical application of frameworks relevant to his job.
One of Storey’s most notable projects involved a Marketing Strategy course, during which he developed a concept for a beverage targeting Gen Z consumers. This project allowed him to blend his industry experience with classroom learning. “It was exciting to see how something that started as an idea could transform into a product with real potential on store shelves,” he remarked.
For Storey, attending CU Denver meant embracing the notion that “no idea is too small to explore and grow into something bigger.” Beyond academics, he enjoys engaging with the local community, participating in volunteer events, and attending concerts at the Civic Center and Sculpture Park.
In addition to his academic and professional commitments, Storey remains active by running along the South Platte River Trail, often joining colleagues from the Altra brand team for lunch runs, or “runches.”
Jamey Storey’s journey illustrates the potential for combining education and career advancement, demonstrating how a dedicated approach to learning can foster both personal and professional growth. His experience at CU Denver serves as an inspiring example for others looking to enhance their skills while actively participating in the workforce.
