Henrico Schools has appointed Michelle Boyd as the new Chief of Staff, effective March 2024, following the departure of Holly Coy to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). Boyd brings a wealth of experience from her current role as a regional assistant superintendent at Fairfax County Public Schools, where she has demonstrated strong leadership in special education programs.

In her new position, Boyd will collaborate with HCPS’s central office and school leaders to streamline operations and guide policy development. Amy Cashwell, the Superintendent of HCPS, highlighted Boyd’s commitment to students with disabilities and her comprehensive understanding of school operations. “Dr. Boyd is an innovative and collaborative leader with a proven track record of meaningful results,” Cashwell stated.

Boyd’s career began as a special education teacher, and she has since held significant leadership roles in both Fairfax and Charlottesville. Her initiatives have led to measurable improvements in Algebra I enrollment, progress for English Learners, and reading proficiency among students with disabilities.

“My children had an outstanding school experience, and I know first-hand the division’s commitment to students and employees,” Boyd expressed. She lives in Henrico County with her family, who are part of the local school community, further connecting her to the district she now leads.

Coy, who served as HCPS’s Chief of Staff since 2022, has transitioned to her new role at the VDOE, where she will continue to influence educational policy in Virginia. Before her time as Chief of Staff, Coy held various positions, including assistant superintendent at the VDOE under former governor Ralph Northam and Virginia’s Deputy Secretary of Education.

With Boyd’s appointment, HCPS aims to enhance its operations and continue its commitment to educational excellence. The community eagerly anticipates her contributions to the school division as she steps into this pivotal role.
