The Southeastern Lifetime Learning and the Ponchatoula Community Care Center will host a free informational session titled Navigating Senior Care on September 16 at 14:00. The event will take place at the Southeastern Alumni Center, located at 500 University Avenue in Hammond.

Lisa Gardner, a representative from CommCare Corporation, a nonprofit organization focused on senior care, emphasized the urgency many families face when seeking senior care services. “Often when families realize they may need senior care services, the need is urgent,” Gardner noted. “Understanding options, how they differ, and navigating various payor sources can be overwhelming.”

Key Topics and Resources

The session will address essential questions related to senior care, such as the differences between palliative care and hospice, inpatient rehabilitation versus skilled nursing, and home health in comparison to home care. Participants will also learn about distinctions between long-term care and long-term acute care, as well as the variances among assisted living, memory care, and nursing home care.

In addition, the session will cover the criteria needed to access these services and the various payor sources available to families navigating this complex landscape. The aim is to equip attendees with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions regarding senior care options.

This educational opportunity is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided, but participants are required to make reservations through Southeastern Lifetime Learning. After the session, attendees will have the chance to engage with representatives from ten senior care service providers for further information and to address any additional questions.

To register for this informative event, interested individuals can visit Southeastern’s Lifetime Learning site at https://forms.gle/RyLqabQQvLS79YqcA. This session represents an important resource for families looking to understand the myriad of senior care options available to them.
