The Rowan-Salisbury School System (RSS) has announced that Franchesca Gantt will take on the role of principal at Salisbury High School. The appointment was confirmed during a special meeting of the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education held on October 20, 2023. Gantt, an experienced educator from North Carolina, is recognized for her track record of enhancing student achievement and fostering community partnerships.

In a statement released by the school system’s marketing and communications director, Michelle Shue, Gantt’s previous successes were highlighted. She currently serves as principal at Konnoak Middle School in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, where she has led the school to achieve its highest student performance outcomes in over a decade. Under her leadership, Konnoak became the only middle school in the district with all “green” performance data, a significant turnaround from its previous status as the lowest-performing middle school.

Gantt expressed her vision for Salisbury High School, stating, “I see myself as a connector, bringing together students, staff, families, and community partners around a shared vision for success.” She aims to provide innovative learning opportunities that prepare students for future college and career paths, emphasizing the importance of student voice and interests.

Her commitment extends beyond academics. Gantt believes in the power of collaboration and community engagement, stating, “Leadership is a collaborative effort, one that requires listening, learning, and working collectively to chart meaningful pathways for every scholar.” She is dedicated to empowering staff as they work together to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.

Before her tenure at Konnoak, Gantt held principal positions in both Caswell County Schools and Camden County Schools. Her qualifications include an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in educational leadership and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Gardner-Webb University. Gantt also holds a bachelor’s degree in textile science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, earned in 2001.

In her new role, Gantt recognizes that Salisbury High School is “a place rich in tradition and pride, while also standing at an exciting crossroads of innovation and opportunity.” She is committed to honoring the school’s history while advancing it to meet the needs of contemporary students.

RSS Superintendent Dr. Kelly W. Withers expressed confidence in Gantt’s ability to foster positive growth within the school. “Ms. Gantt is a proven instructional leader who knows how to improve outcomes for students while building a positive, inclusive school culture,” Withers stated. He emphasized that Gantt’s vision aligns with the future aspirations of Salisbury High School.

Gantt’s enthusiasm for her new position is evident. “I am truly honored and excited to step into this role,” she said. “I am eager to learn from the incredible Salisbury High School community and to work collectively to chart a path toward continued success.” Her dedication to leading, serving, and growing alongside the school community reflects her commitment to excellence and opportunity for all students.

As Gantt prepares to transition into her new role, the Salisbury High School community looks forward to the leadership and innovation she will bring to the school.
