Norman Gilbert (“Gibby”) Levin, a beloved member of the Hyde Park community, passed away at the age of 97. His remarkable life journey touched many hearts, and he leaves behind a legacy of dedication to family and community service.

After graduating from Hyde Park High School, Levin pursued an accounting degree at Roosevelt University. He quickly made his mark in the real estate sector as a founding partner of Wolin-Levin Inc., which established itself as a significant real estate management institution in Hyde Park. Levin continued to contribute to the business well into his 90s, showcasing his commitment and passion for his work.

Levin was known for his diverse interests, which included a deep appreciation for local sports teams such as the Blackhawks and Bears, as well as a love for cultural experiences, including the symphony and opera. He was a frequent patron of local favorites like Wolfy’s and Manny’s Deli, reflecting his connection to the community.

Community Leadership and Family Life

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Levin played a crucial role in community leadership. He served as the founding chair of the Jewish Federation Management Corporation (JFMC), which is part of the Jewish United Fund (JUF). His commitment to philanthropy and community service was evident through his involvement with various organizations, including a position on the board of Roosevelt University.

Levin’s personal life was equally fulfilling. He was happily married to his wife, Shulamith (“Shellie”) Levin, for 59 years. Together, they traveled extensively, often accompanied by their extended family, creating cherished memories across the globe. Levin is survived by his children: Robert (Linda), the late Barbara (Marc) Goldberg, and Julie (David) Freireich. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and a great-grandfather to five, all of whom he adored.

Levin was pre-deceased by his parents, William and Sarah (Pinckovitch), as well as his siblings: Harold, Arthur, and Lillian (Schaffner). His family remembers him as a loving figure whose warmth and kindness touched everyone he met.
