Apple’s Updated MagSafe Charger Powers Phones at 25W

Apple has introduced an enhanced version of its MagSafe Charger, which now provides wireless charging at a maximum rate of 25W for compatible devices. Previously, the charger allowed only 15W charging for older iPhone models. With this update, users can now charge not only the latest iPhone 17 lineup but also other compatible smartphones, such as the Google Pixel 10, at the faster rate.
Initially released a year ago, the MagSafe Charger was designed to work seamlessly with the iPhone 16 series, which featured the new 25W wireless charging capability. However, this feature was limited to Apple’s own devices, as compatibility with the broader Qi2.2 standard was not yet in place. According to reports from MacRumors and 9to5Mac, the latest charger fully supports this standard, enabling faster charging for various devices.
Pricing and Availability
The new MagSafe Charger is available on Apple’s online store, priced at $39 for a 1-meter USB-C cable or $49 for a 2-meter cable. This pricing remains consistent with last year’s version, making it accessible for consumers looking to upgrade their charging capabilities.
Apple first leaked details about this updated charger in June 2023 through Taiwan’s National Communications Commission. The timing of this release coincides with the growing adoption of the Qi2.2 standard, which allows for greater versatility in wireless charging options. The iPhone 17 series, launched earlier this year, is fully compatible with Qi2.2, and most iPhone 16 models will also gain this compatibility once the upcoming iOS 26 is released.
Charging Performance Across Devices
While the new MagSafe Charger supports 25W charging rates for compatible devices, users upgrading to the iPhone Air will notice a maximum wireless charging rate of 20W. This distinction highlights the varying capabilities across Apple’s device lineup, encouraging consumers to consider their specific needs when selecting a charger.
The introduction of faster wireless charging aligns with Apple’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and device compatibility. As the market for wireless technology continues to evolve, Apple’s updated MagSafe Charger positions the company to cater to a wider range of customers seeking efficient charging solutions.
