SpaceX is preparing for the launch of 24 Starlink satellites aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This mission, designated Starlink 17-2, is scheduled for liftoff on March 15, 2024, at 20:55 PDT (23:55 EDT / 03:55 UTC). The mission aims to expand internet service in the polar regions of the world by deploying the satellites into a polar orbit.

The Falcon 9 rocket will take off from Space Launch Complex 4 East, following a south-westerly trajectory. This launch will utilize the Falcon 9 first stage booster B1075, which has an impressive history, marking its 19th flight. Previous missions for this booster include the Transporter-11 rideshare and 15 batches of Starlink satellites.

Approximately eight and a half minutes after launch, Falcon 9’s first stage is expected to land on the droneship named “Of Course I Still Love You,” stationed in the Pacific Ocean. If successful, this landing will represent the 142nd for this particular vessel and the 481st booster landing overall for SpaceX.

As SpaceX prepares for this satellite deployment, it is also gearing up for its third and final planned astronaut mission of the year. The Crew-11 mission is set to launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with the earliest date being March 21, 2024. The four members of the Crew-11 mission, which includes NASA astronauts Mike Fincke and Zena Cardman, along with Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov, arrived at the Kennedy Space Center on March 15, 2024, for a launch rehearsal scheduled for March 18, 2024.

The Starlink initiative is part of SpaceX’s broader vision to provide global internet coverage, particularly in underserved regions. With this upcoming launch, the company continues to solidify its position as a major player in the satellite internet market, striving to improve connectivity for users in remote and polar areas.
