WWII Veteran Sgt. Kate Pate Walker Inducted into Hall of Fame

Sgt. Kate Pate Walker, a World War II veteran, will be inducted into the Museum of the Gulf Coast Hall of Fame on October 4, 2025, at 14:00. This ceremony recognizes her significant contributions during the war, particularly as a member of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, known as the “six triple eight.”

Honoring a Legacy

Walker, who passed away in 2012, was posthumously honored with congressional medals during a recent museum event. The medals were presented to her family members by Representative Brian Babin and the Historic Sacred Spaces group, highlighting the enduring impact of her service.

The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion played a vital role in ensuring that mail reached U.S. troops stationed in Europe. Tasked with sorting and delivering a staggering 17 million letters, the battalion completed this mission in just three months, significantly ahead of the six-month deadline set by military command.
