Tacoma Invites Volunteers for Key Roles on Redevelopment Board
The Tacoma City Council is actively inviting community volunteers to apply for six open positions on the Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority Board (TCRA). This initiative aims to enhance housing and economic growth within the city by engaging professionals in accounting, banking, finance, and real estate.
Applications are now open, and the city is particularly looking for certified public accountants (CPAs), banking experts, and experienced real estate brokers to fill these vital roles. These board members play a crucial role in managing grants and loans designed to support low-income households, multi-family housing projects, and businesses that generate employment opportunities.
Current board members, whose terms are coming to an end, may also reapply for another term. This reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to community development and the importance of experienced voices in the decision-making process.
Meeting Schedule and Inclusivity Initiatives
The TCRA holds meetings twice a month, with an adjusted schedule during the holiday season in November and December. These gatherings provide essential platforms for board members to contribute to Tacoma’s development efforts, whether in person or virtually.
In alignment with the city’s broader goals, the TCRA prioritizes equity and inclusivity. The board encourages applications from diverse communities, including BIPOC individuals, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, seniors, youth, as well as Tacoma’s immigrant and refugee populations. This commitment aims to ensure that the board reflects the city’s diverse demographics and perspectives.
Those selected for the board will also be required to complete training on the Open Public Meetings Act and the Public Records Act. This training is essential for understanding the responsibilities associated with these roles and ensuring transparent governance.
Elizabeth Wing from the City Clerk’s Office is available to provide further information regarding the application process, including requirements, meeting schedules, and agendas. Interested individuals can visit the city’s website or contact her directly before the application deadline on November 24, 2023. The city aims to keep the process transparent and accessible to all who wish to contribute to Tacoma’s evolving needs.
This call for volunteers not only seeks to fill essential roles but also reinforces Tacoma’s dedication to fostering inclusive development and addressing the housing challenges faced by its residents.
