The Rotary Club of Tryon is set to host its 23rd Annual Shrimpfest on September 12, 2023, from 18:00 to 21:00 at the Landrum Farmers Market, located at 221 W. Rutherford St. This popular event, which has become the club’s signature fundraising effort since its inception in 2002, promises an evening filled with food, music, and community engagement.

Celebrating Community and Flavor

Attendees can look forward to a delightful dinner featuring boiled shrimp, bratwurst, roasted potatoes, cole slaw, and corn on the cob. The ticket price is set at $65, with all proceeds directly supporting the ongoing initiatives of the Rotary Club of Tryon. Guests will also have access to a variety of beverages, including beer, wine, and soft drinks, alongside a tempting selection of homemade desserts.

This year’s entertainment will feature the acclaimed Jim Peterman Quartet, known for their engaging performances that promise to enhance the atmosphere for dining and socializing. In addition to the culinary and musical offerings, attendees will have opportunities to win door prizes and participate in a silent auction, showcasing a range of appealing items.

Impacting the Community

The Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation has a strong tradition of community support, having donated approximately $80,000 to local organizations and projects in the past year alone. This includes $37,000 in scholarships awarded to local students and $15,000 contributed towards the construction of the new Polk County YMCA. Additional grants have supported various local initiatives, such as the Polk County History Association and Caregiver Connections.

Moreover, the foundation has allocated $5,000 to the Reading is Fundamental program in elementary schools, as well as another $5,000 for hurricane rebuilding efforts. The foundation also extends its commitment to global health issues, directing $3,000 towards initiatives aimed at combating polio and Alzheimer’s disease.
