Loren John Vrieze, aged 89, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, in Rochester, Minnesota. Surrounded by family at Edenbrook West, Loren’s life was defined by deep family ties, a strong faith, and cherished memories of outdoor adventures.

Born on November 21, 1935, in Spring Valley, Minnesota, Loren was the son of Earle and Lucille (Baures) Vrieze. He graduated from Wykoff High School and dedicated his career to Waters Conley, which later became known as Telex Communications. There, he worked in the shipping and receiving department until his retirement.

Loren’s personal life was marked by his enduring love for his wife, Shirley Naylor. The couple met while dancing at the Pla-Mor ballroom in Rochester and married on May 3, 1957. Their union lasted more than 68 years and produced three children: Dennis, Scott, and Kelly.

Community Involvement and Hobbies

A devoted member of the Rochester Assembly Church for over two decades, Loren served as an usher and greeter, embodying his strong faith. He found solace in his belief, often relying on God for support and comfort throughout his life.

Outside of his religious commitments, Loren enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities. He loved fishing, camping, and gardening, but perhaps his greatest passion was hunting. He often hunted with his children and other family members, creating lasting memories in the wilderness.

Loren was actively involved in his children’s lives, attending their sporting events and even assisting as a little league coach. His love for games extended to card games as well, particularly cribbage, which he played with family and friends.

A Legacy of Kindness and Family

Described as a kind and gentle soul, Loren was known for his lively sense of humor and deep appreciation for family. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, and their children, Dennis (Kathie) Vrieze, Scott (Sheri) Vrieze, and Kelly Perry (Alan Knoff). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Rhiannon (Travis) Roberts, Ben Vrieze, Katie (Thomas) Brekke, Jacob (Jessica) Vrieze, Hunter (MacKinzy) Minske, Morgan (Jeremy) Schwanz, Travis Perry, Krysta Perry, Josh Smith (Abe Widjaja), and Sarah (Scott) Lester. Loren also leaves behind fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Earle and Lucille Vrieze; a grandson, Thomas Perry; brothers Nevin, Burdette, and Leslie Vrieze; and sister Janette Schroeder.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on September 13, 2025, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, located at 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, Minnesota. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. The family invites all who knew Loren to join them in celebrating his life.
