Former Volunteer Marie Watson Steps Up as New Leader of Santa Fe Builders

The Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association has appointed Marie Watson as its new executive officer, taking on the role after an extensive period of volunteer service. Watson, who has been involved with the association for the past three years, succeeds Miles Conway, who recently transitioned to lead the New Mexico Home Builders Association after five years in his position.
Watson, a designer and draftsperson with a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture from Colorado State University, has built significant connections within the Santa Fe construction community. Her experience includes working closely with various stakeholders, including designers and tradespeople, which she believes will enhance her ability to advocate effectively for all members of the association.
In a statement released by Lynsey Pompei-Storm, the board president, Watson’s industry experience and relationship-building skills were highlighted as pivotal factors in her selection. Pompei-Storm noted, “Marie is very down to earth and very enthusiastic. That’s something I’ve always appreciated about her. She can relate to people from all walks of life.”
Watson’s previous role was with a general contractor, which she believes has equipped her with the insights necessary to serve the association’s members. “I think that will help me as I get to advocate for everybody as a whole,” she expressed.
The Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association, founded in 1992, aims to connect individuals interested in home building with skilled craftsmen and trade professionals. Watson’s focus in the early days of her new role will involve organizing upcoming events, including the association’s annual golf tournament and membership drive.
She emphasized her commitment to fostering a strong community among members. “I want to make everyone feel like part of our community because they are,” Watson stated.
Reflecting on her diverse background in design, construction, and volunteerism, Watson described her journey as one filled with passion. “I’ve always said, ‘I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.’ But I’m passionate about each one of those for its own reason,” she remarked.
As Watson steps into her new leadership role, her blend of experience and enthusiasm positions her well to navigate the challenges and opportunities facing the Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association.
