Discover How to Make Homemade Butter in Just 7 Minutes
The art of making homemade butter has become surprisingly accessible, with one individual demonstrating that it can be accomplished in just seven minutes using a stand mixer. This revelation could change how many people view the cost and effort involved in crafting this kitchen staple.
Simple Ingredients, Quick Process
To create butter from scratch, only one ingredient is necessary: heavy cream. The home cook used 20 fluid ounces (600 ml) of cream, purchased at a low price of approximately £3 / $4. The process began by pouring the cream into the bowl of an Ooni Halo Pro stand mixer, which is designed to handle larger volumes compared to standard mixers.
With a whisk attachment fitted, the mixer was set to run for ten minutes, as suggested by an online recipe. Gradually increasing the speed allowed the cream to transform from soft peaks to hard peaks. After about six minutes, the mixture started to appear lumpy, indicating that the butter was nearly ready. The home cook stopped the mixer at the seven-minute mark, achieving a firm consistency.
Final Touches and Taste
Once the mixing was complete, the next step involved separating the buttermilk from the solid butter. This part of the process required some hands-on effort, as the butter solids needed to be rinsed under cold running water. Using cheesecloth helped to remove excess moisture, essential for preserving the butter’s freshness.
After drying the butter, flaky salt was folded in for flavor, and the final product was rolled in parchment paper. Following a brief chill in the refrigerator, the homemade butter was ready for use. The result was a rustic, flavorful butter that the cook enthusiastically enjoyed on toast.
While the question of cost-effectiveness arises, the homemade version yielded 300 grams (10.5 ounces) of butter, which cost roughly the same as store-bought options. However, the satisfaction of creating it from scratch adds a personal touch that many find rewarding.
This experience reflects a growing trend of individuals exploring traditional cooking methods, drawing inspiration from past generations. Making butter at home not only allows for control over ingredients but also connects cooks to their culinary heritage.
