Community Remembers Kathleen A. Hepner, 76, of Port Carbon

Kathleen A. Hepner, aged 76, passed away on July 31, 2025, at the Schuylkill Center in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. A beloved member of her community, she was born on August 19, 1948, in Pottsville to the late Joseph and Wanda (Pawlavloskie) Tray. Her death marks a significant loss for her family and friends, who remember her fondly for her vibrant spirit and love for life.

Kathleen was deeply involved with the former St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon. Her passions included spending time with family, shopping, attending yard sales, and visiting casinos. She had a particular fondness for collecting jewelry and antiques, hobbies that brought her much joy throughout her life.

In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her grandson, Brian Hepner, along with her brother, Joseph Tray, and sisters Rose Brown, Beth Ann Souchek, Martha Cash, Gladys Lisnock, and Janet Conville.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard J. Hepner, of Port Carbon, and their two sons: Michael Hepner, along with his companion Cindy Mummey of Schuylkill Haven, and David Hepner, who resides in Drexel Hill with his wife Tricia Hepner. Kathleen also leaves behind grandchildren Devan Joy, Lynsey Deiter, and Michael Hepner Jr., as well as great-grandchildren Dylan, Eyan, and Asher. Surviving siblings include Wanda Svrchek and James Tray, along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Kathleen A. Hepner will be private. The arrangements are being handled by the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon. Friends and family wishing to express their condolences can visit the funeral home’s website for more information.
