On March 16, 2024, Springfield transformed Forest Park into a vibrant hub of health and community spirit during the annual L.I.D.S. Live Wellness Fest. This event, which attracted hundreds of residents and visitors, featured a variety of activities designed to promote holistic well-being and active living.

Celebrating Health and Community

The day began with a 5K Run/Walk Race, welcoming both individuals and teams. Following the race, participants engaged in live fitness demonstrations, workshops, and explored a range of local vendors. Food trucks offered diverse culinary options, while music and raffles added to the festive atmosphere. The event was a collaborative effort between L.I.D.S. Live Well and the Springfield Parks and Recreation Department.

Previously held in Szot Park in Chicopee, this year’s festival marked a significant change in venue. “We are thrilled to broaden our reach this year by hosting the 4th annual event at Forest Park,” said event coordinator Lidya Early. “Moving to Forest Park in Springfield gives us a chance to reach a broader audience. Forest Park is a landmark space, it’s central, it’s beautiful and it offers the kind of energy and visibility that helps the event grow.”

Inspiring Wellness for All

The festival attracted families, fitness enthusiasts, and newcomers alike. Feedback from past events has been overwhelmingly positive, with many participants expressing feelings of energy and inspiration. “Many participants share that they leave feeling energized, supported and inspired to keep making wellness a part of their daily lives,” Early noted. “People also love the sense of community. It’s not just about a 5K or fitness classes, it’s about connection, encouragement and belonging.”

Central to the mission of the Wellness Fest is a focus on uplifting fitness and overall well-being, especially within BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities, where health disparities often persist. Early shared, “What started as my personal journey to prioritize wellness has grown into a community-wide event that brings people together around fitness, family and fun.”

Early emphasized the festival’s goal: “Our biggest hope is to inspire people to see wellness as something joyful, communal, and accessible. We want to break down barriers to fitness and health by showing that it can be fun, family-friendly and rooted in community support.” She added, “Ultimately, we hope participants leave feeling encouraged to continue prioritizing their health, while also strengthening connections across our community.”

Entertainment throughout the day was provided by DJ Munch of Mixxing in Action Entertainment, contributing to a lively environment that encouraged participation and enjoyment.

The L.I.D.S. Live Wellness Fest not only celebrated fitness but also fostered a strong sense of community, making it a significant event in Springfield’s annual calendar.
