Rowan County Public Health has issued updated recommendations for residents as the prevalence of COVID-19 and other seasonal illnesses, including the flu, colds, and allergies, increases during this time of year. The agency emphasizes the importance of taking precautions to safeguard individual and community health.

Updated COVID-19 Guidelines

If you test positive for COVID-19, it is crucial to adhere to specific guidelines to protect both yourself and those around you. Individuals should remain at home until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications and their symptoms are improving overall.

After meeting these criteria, additional precautions should be taken for the following five days. These include:

  • Practicing good hand hygiene
  • Wearing a well-fitted mask when in the company of others
  • Maintaining physical distance from others whenever possible

Should symptoms reappear or a fever develop again after resuming normal activities, individuals must return to isolation and remain home until they meet the fever-free criteria.

Understanding Seasonal Illness Symptoms

As fall progresses, distinguishing between COVID-19, the flu, seasonal allergies, and the common cold can be challenging. Rowan County Public Health provides a comparison chart to help residents recognize symptoms:

COVID-19: Typically presents with a dry cough, fever, and loss of taste or smell. Symptoms can include fatigue, muscle aches, and shortness of breath. Flu: Often characterized by a high fever, body aches, and fatigue. Seasonal Allergies: Commonly cause itchy eyes, sneezing, and a runny or stuffy nose. Cold: Usually results in a sore throat, cough, and congestion.

Rowan County Public Health urges everyone to stay informed and practice healthy habits. Residents are encouraged to reach out to their healthcare provider with any concerns. Taking these proactive measures can significantly reduce the spread of illness and contribute to a safer community.
